The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics took place from July 23 to August 8, 2021, after being postponed due to COVID-19. Tokyo became the first city in Asia to host the Summer Olympics twice. The Games featured 339 events across 33 sports, including new additions like 3x3 basketball and freestyle BMX. Due to pandemic restrictions, most competitions were held without spectators. The event was the most expensive Olympics ever, costing over $20 billion. The official motto was "United by Emotion", reflecting the spirit of global unity.
