Litecoin (LTC) is a decentralized peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open-source software project, initially released in October 2011. Inspired by Bitcoin, it shares a modified codebase, offering lower transaction fees, faster confirmations, and mining difficulty retargeting. Often dubbed the "silver to Bitcoin's gold," Litecoin gained further utility with optional privacy features added in 2022 through the MWEB upgrade.
