The Eredivisie is the top professional football league in the Netherlands, established in 1956. It comprises 18 clubs playing in a round-robin format. At the end of each season, the bottom two clubs are relegated to the second division, while the top two from the second division are promoted. The third-bottom team enters playoffs for potential retention in the top league.
