Sigma-Aldrich Corporation, an American company specializing in chemicals, life sciences, and biotechnology, was formed through the merger of Sigma Chemical Company and Aldrich Chemical Company. It grew through acquisitions, employed 9,600 people, and was listed on the Fortune 1000. Headquartered in St. Louis, Sigma-Aldrich operated in around 40 countries. It became part of Merck KGaA's life science business and operates as MilliporeSigma in the US and Canada.
